just to mention that i think metrolink are making a fast buck out of people who are willing to pay for there ticket and not having change in the machines.
i travelled to manchester from timperley this morning and had a £10 note with me, my fair was £5.40 return to manchester, so i went to the ticket machine to do the honest thing and pay for my journey.
i needed a ticket to travel and was told the machine had no change and would i accept being over charged by £4.60. its not big change these days!!! i had no choice i needed a ticket to travel and had no way of getting any change.
i informed metrolink that i had been over charged and was told in a nasty attitude that i should have had the correct change.. why offer the facilty of change to the customer when metro link never have any in the machines and over charging people for tickets, they know full well what they are doing and this compensates for the people who dont pay!!!
think they should have ticket barriers like london and that you have to swipe your tickect before you get on the tram.. and a man behind a counter with change for the customer!! would be intresting to print this in the newspaper and lets see how many other people have been ripped off !!! king regards

This also happened to me on a journey from Eccles to Altrincham. Part of the problem was I couldn't actually read the screen properly as the sun was shining directly on it so didn't know it was going to rip me off to the tune of £6.80.

Anyway, I wrote to Metrolink explaining the situation and whilst they refunded my money they also included a curt letter informing me that should this happen again then it's tough luck and they would not refund if it happened again.

What a disgrace - now Metrolink are penalising you for having a ticket!

Metrolink have always tried to make a fast buck....

* Notice how if you genuinely lose your ticket / dont have change for machine / machine swallows money and doesnt give ticket they will give you the standard fare

And then note

* Teenage scally's who always skip the tram fare and then have friendly banter with the guards

Everybody who regularly travels on Metrolink will see this happen

The long way around that is not to buy the ticket and travel on the tram to the next stop and try again, if the same happens do the same again, and again until either you eventually get a ticket or you get to your destination.
The quick way is press the intercom button, inform whoever answers that the machine has no change and you are not willing to be ripped off and you are going to travel for free, if they don't like it then tell them you will be contacting the newspapers with your story.
